How PS MD OnCall service works.
First, we obtain the proper information from you that our job requires such as; the provider names in your practice, your address, phone numbers, hours of operation and the insurances you accept. We have found it very helpful to find out what time you would like to see patients that call in after hours. We suggest your slow time of the day. This allows us to fill your schedule during the best time for you. We obtain your referral list that includes the serving hospital and any specialist you refer to.
You forward your phone line to a number we provide. When the OnCall physician receives an after hours call from your patient, we quickly assess the medical situation. Some calls are emergencies while others only need to schedule an appointment. The OnCall physician will not write a new prescription, however they may very well suggest an over the counter medication. In all cases, we will set up an appointment with your practice as soon as possible. When the situation warrants, the OnCall physician will suggest the patient go to the emergency room or refer them to a specialist that you have provided with a follow up back in your office. This type of care keeps the patient loyal to your practice by receiving prompt attention from a caring voice over the phone.
Your practice will receive a fax sheet from us the following morning. This will inform you of each call, the patient name, caller, time of call, age of patient, nature of call and what action was given to the patient. You will find this helpful in follow-up and to complete your medical file on the patient.
